Chapter 453 Disinfection and Cleaning

Chapter 453 Disinfection and Cleaning

Backlund time, 4:30.

There are 15 hours and 30 minutes left until the Sentinel launch.

When Klein, Leonard, and Audrey arrived at the Harvest Church, a soaking wet Emlyn sat blankly in the mess, being sprayed with disinfectant non-stop.

He didn't need to say anything or do anything. Seeing Klein and the other two appear, he was unmoved. He just glanced at them and then looked away. His eyes were unfocused as he continued to stare blankly.

The three of them stood in the emergency room, watching the heavy rain pouring down inside, not knowing whether to go in or back out. Finally, Audrey took out two umbrellas, allowing the three of them to walk into the rain of disinfectant with dignity.

Klein, holding an umbrella alone, walked over to Emlyn and shielded the soaked Emlyn.

Emlyn didn't look up at the three of them. He wiped his face with his hand and spoke before Klein and the others could ask.

"Do you feel that something is different here?"

"Well...it's definitely different here."

It was unclear what the doctor was thinking; his wet clothes and hair made him look quite miserable. Audrey looked around, trying to find some milder words to describe the mess around them.

"The emergency center... has become... more spacious and brighter than before..."

"That's not what I meant."

Em grabbed a handful of her hair and wrung out the excess water.

"Not destruction, not people, not any physical entity in the real world.

"It doesn't seem like a spiritual warning, nor can it be considered a spiritually triggered fluctuation.

"Perhaps it is too subtle to be detected by spiritual intuition; perhaps it is too profound to be touched by our current humanity.

“It’s more of a… pure feeling…

"Subtle, vague, without reason...

"This change seems to exist, but when you really concentrate on capturing it, it seems to disappear, making you suspect that it is just an illusion, a hallucination caused by sudden changes and long-term high pressure...

"In short, it seems that something has changed, disappeared, and yet it seems that it has never been there..."

Emlyn's ramblings didn't bother Audrey much. After such an unexpected disaster, she needed some time to recover from the horrific trauma.

She looked back at Leonard, only to find that both the magician and the detective had become serious, closing their eyes and genuinely concentrating on feeling something.

At first, he felt nothing, nothing different. Gradually, as he calmed down, Klein realized that something did seem to be different.

Under the various impacts of the illusion of nothingness, Klein was very sensitive to this subtle and ethereal feeling.

The fine mist of disinfectant hit the umbrella. The unique smell and the moisture of the water neutralized the dust in the shabby room and cleansed the messy scene.

Not only did the chaos and destruction vanish in the rain and fog, but something much larger and more hidden also vanished.

But Klein simply couldn't find the right words to describe this hazy feeling. To say it was the dissipation of emotions seemed too human; to say it was the dissipation of fog seemed too concrete.

It was like plucking the only gray hair on a young man's head, or washing off the only small oil stain on a snow-white shirt. A small and depressing feeling was quietly washed away.

For the first time, the noisy, crowded emergency center felt so empty. For the first time, the germ-ridden room was washed clean like a waterfall. This battlefield, a battlefield of life and death, felt so messy for the first time, yet also so relaxing, so... clean.

"It's very subtle... It seems to make people feel cleaner..." Leonard pondered, "Is it because of the large amount of disinfectant flushing?"

"No, definitely not."

Emlyn shook his head.

"The cleaning machines use large amounts of disinfectant every day, running 24 hours a day. This special disinfectant is very effective in removing extraordinary pollution, but today was the first time I felt this clean feeling.

"If it was the effect of disinfectant, I would have felt it a long time ago."

This subtle feeling...is it a psychological effect caused by the change in environment?

No, something definite was swept away.

Klein firmly believed.

Klein was all too familiar with this type of feeling. The more he concentrated on it, the more he was reminded of the Mad God Alice's erosion of reality. This subtle influence was truly terrifying.

……and many more.

"Emlyn, do you still have the obsidian lens I gave you?"

Emlyn frowned, and felt his whole body as if waking from a dream. In disbelief, he pulled out a piece of cloth from his pocket, and the lens was gone, vanished into thin air.

"...I clearly...put that thing in my pocket...

"I will also abide by the custody rules you gave me...

"Why did it just... disappear?"

The obsidian disappeared.

The obsidian, representing the void eroding reality, disappeared...

Klein rubbed his hands irritably, paced back and forth, and suddenly stopped.

“This is…what Obsidian represents has been triggered!

"This is... the [Destiny] I'm handing over to you, to the Obsidian Lens!

“In this performance of Hermes, the obsidian lens is the messenger of connection and destiny.

"Since it vanished out of thin air due to the conflict, it means that it fulfilled its [Destiny] in the recent attack and made a small but substantial interference in the real world.

“Once it’s triggered and completes its mission, it’s consumed, so it disappears.

"So the question is: What destiny did this obsidian lens fulfill?"

"【Scars to the Sky】!"

Leonard suddenly had an epiphany.

“The worst and most influential incident at Harvest Church in recent times was probably the terrorist attack by serial killer Nelson Korodko.

"What's unique about this attack is that Nelson is a member of the Ferris cult.

"The most disgusting thing about the Ferris Cult is that every time they hold a ritual, regardless of whether the ritual is completed or not, they leave a slight, deep, and difficult-to-eradicate mark in that place.

"Thus, when they perform rituals or other actions on this occasion again, they will receive the power and blessing of this scar and deepen it again until they successfully complete a great mission.

"We call it the [Heavenly Scar].

"It's like a scar, secretly burying the lesion within the site. It's difficult for the church to detect this scar, and even more difficult to eliminate and heal it. Often, the church can only watch helplessly as these scars grow larger.

"However, during these three hundred years, the Ferris Cult has almost disappeared from the world. It was only since the attack on the Harvest Church this year that we have once again detected traces of the Ferris Cult.

"Generally speaking, the church won't bother with minor wounds. If two or more incidents involving the Sky Cult occur in the same place, the church will request a very high-level seal to thoroughly purify the area."

"So, those people who were causing trouble at the hospital just now were indeed members of the Motian Cult?"

When I heard this name, I thought of the Harvest Church that had been bombed before, and my anger started to rise.

"It's never going to end, is it? You're only targeting me, the Harvest Church!"

“But now, I’m here and I find a sense of emptiness that wasn’t there before.”

Klein patted Emlyn's shoulder.

"From now on you won't have to worry about them coming to farm dungeons again.

"It was the Obsidian Lens's [Destiny] that devoured the [Heavenly Scar] here."
