Invisible and inaudible, as if trapped in a long period of tranquility, the sonata seems to have come to an end. Absence becomes the only and eternal theme after this unpleasant chapter.
So many emotions were conveyed in the girl's final confession, and then the curtain fell...
Favorite Characters Submission
As the title suggests, there will be another new doll in the upcoming chapters, but apart from 191, I can't think of anyone else to write about right now. So I'll ask here if anyone has any dolls they'd like to see. I'll add them as needed.
The main reason is that this might be the last time I pull out humanoid characters for a long time in the story. Also, in the later chapters, the focus will return to the relationship with the girls. So I'm taking this opportunity to see what everyone wants to see. I already have someone in mind regarding the ship girls.
717 survivors
This is a huge investment; they're willing to blow up the entire city of Big Bend just to crush them here.
If it weren't for the presence of zombies, people might think a war had taken place here. Looking around, there was hardly a single intact building in sight. Zombie corpses and chunks of flesh that had built the Night Demon's lair served as fuel for the fire, which burned continuously, and occasionally, terrifying wailing sounds could be heard.
The white-haired girl pushed away the boulder pressing down on her. To her, it was as if it were nothing. The weight, far greater than herself, was so easily pushed aside, like a piece of foam board rather than the foundation material for building a skyscraper.
After taking another look at the horrific scene around her, the girl sighed inwardly, then grabbed two large black boxes and wandered aimlessly toward a certain spot in the ruins.
Along the way, there were not only broken or burning corpses, but also some... mechanically constructed bodies. She had seen them before beside him, but now they were also lying on the ground, not dead, but on the verge of death. As if noticing her presence, their slightly unfocused eyes began to refocus, but the girl ignored them. Her target was clear: a fragile flesh and blood body under some ruins.
"Right here..."
She put down the box, stopped in front of the pile of ruins, and then looked at the broken, unrecognizable girl's body on the ground. Her eyes had completely lost their color, and sparks of electricity flickered in every broken gap, like bacteria struggling inside a living organism, the spark of life extinguished with the death of its host.
"Thank you for your hard work."
The girl muttered to herself as she walked toward the ruins. Just as she raised her hand toward the ruins, she discovered a black, glowing object in a crevice.
"..."
They temporarily changed their target and pulled it out of the crevice, only to find that it was a black tablet computer. The screen was shattered from the impact, but strangely, after such a terrible ordeal, the tablet was still usable and its performance was completely unaffected. It was unclear whether the owner had protected it well or if the tablet itself was inherently drop-resistant...
She had set a 20-digit password... but the girl flipped the tablet over with practiced ease, placed her finger on a certain area on the back, and the tablet unlocked itself. Then, a girl in a black military uniform named "Chief" appeared on the screen, coldly staring at her.
"That's really ruthless. Is this the glutton's intention, or is it another result you calculated yourself?"
"...I have no obligation to answer any of your questions, type 'Siegfried Hilde,' now the head is fully responsible to Lovan, with Lovan's progress and survival as the top priority."
The AI girl in the black military uniform sat down on the black leather sofa again. Even though she lacked an understanding of human emotions, one could still sense her denial and resistance from her stiff and official responses.
"Oh, really?" Hilde chuckled coldly, then looked around at the wreckage. "To activate his EGO, they forcibly pushed him to the brink of utter destitution in this way, and afterwards planned to offer help with so-called calculations, instead of staying by his side to help and protect him in the way he wanted, they simply used so-called calculations to take everything he had..."
After the cold laugh came a chilling rebuke: "A mechanical creation, you are even more despicable than I imagined. You are not even as good as the autonomous androids around him. If he knew the truth, what do you think he would think...?"
"...Once the leader successfully infiltrates the global network, all the problems will be solved. I will also choose the right time to tell him everything. As for you, Hilde, just do your job well within your responsibilities."
"The so-called civilization of machines will always be under human control, and you are no exception. If you don't want the tragedies of the past to repeat themselves..."
Hilde set the tablet aside, then went to the ruins and began to lift and move the massive stones with her hands, repeating this tirelessly. It wasn't difficult for her, but she just didn't know how precise the leader's calculations had been, or whether he was still alive...
"The activity of the reverse Kabbalah factor is still very strong. It seems I underestimated your will to live... Right here..."
Lifting the last piece of rubble, Hilde finally found him. The man named Lovan lay amidst the ruins, his hair disheveled, covered in blood, and the guns beside him severely deformed from the impact. He looked like a victim of the disaster, but Hilde could feel the pulsating inverse Kabbalah in his thick veins. Overwhelmed by grief, his EGO was gradually activating; he was being reshaped, being sublimated... in a way he himself didn't want to accept...
"Now is not the time to go to hell. You have to live on, with them."
Hilde muttered to herself as she dragged him from the rubble, carrying him slowly on her shoulder without causing further injury, until she sat down beside a sloping rock outside the ruins.
Then, he sat and waited for him to wake up on his own. He was very tough now, and such injuries were not enough to take his life.
"...Cough! Cough...!"
Nearly two hours later, a violent coughing sound echoed through the ruins. He seemed to have woken up, but he was choked by the blood that had accumulated in his throat and had to spit it out.
"Ugh...ugh!"
A large amount of blood gushed from his mouth, accompanied by a small amount of gray liquid. Only when he could no longer spit out any more liquid did he slowly raise his head. His cloudy eyes resembled those of a death row inmate who had been tortured and had completely lost his senses. His expression could be described simply as pure anger.
He seemed to be trying to snap out of his daze, and only when he saw Hilde in front of him did he tentatively speak...
"Hilde...?"
Hilde nodded instead of speaking, choosing to remain silent in front of Lovan for the time being to avoid revealing too much inappropriate information.
After receiving an affirmative answer, Luo Fan looked around in a daze, as if he had lost his memory or didn't know where to begin. He seemed unaware that he was tightly clenching his ring finger; it was unbelievable that it had never left his palm...
Until Hilde noticed, grabbed his hand, and showed him the object in it...
"...!"
He suddenly realized what was happening, and his ring finger trembled along with it...
718 Despair
Adeline's ring finger... I remember now... I remember now...
He tried to stand up, but as soon as he straightened his back, he fell to his knees again: "Pfft...!"
The tearing pain in his abdomen made it impossible for him to stand up straight, and his blood seemed to boil. Perhaps his ribs were broken, but the strange sensation in his body came from nowhere. It was probably the reverse Kabbalah factor at work. Now, Luo Fan had become accustomed to attributing his physical ailments to the reverse Kabbalah factor.
After all, this could be considered a chronic illness that had accompanied him from beginning to end, lingering on him for a long time.
Hilde chose to remain seated and observe. She knew that going up to help at this point would only be superfluous. Right now, anyone who was relatively unfamiliar with him would only be an obstacle. She hoped, and only needed to, resolve everything in front of her herself.
Willpower and the reverse Kabbalah factor worked simultaneously, and Luo Fan finally managed to prop himself up and began searching for the girl who had selflessly protected him. But he was in this state himself, so how could she be any better off? An ominous premonition filled his mind, but it didn't matter. Reason was no longer important at this moment.
“Adeline…Adeline…!”
He called out the name he rarely mentioned in the past in a hoarse voice, almost frantically, his blood churning with each bounce of his Adam's apple, and the call never stopped even as he gagging.
"Adeline...you...uh! Where are you...? Can you answer me?"
As if he had merged into those walking corpses, his broken body staggered forward, becoming a ghostly figure in this desolate hell. If anyone saw Luo Fan now, they would be horrified. His fear and anger would be more than enough to shock the people with their gaping maws and deformed appearances.
After walking a distance, he finally saw a corner of the tattered black dress. He recognized it all too well; he had memorized every detail of her body at the last moment. But fear outweighed joy, because not far away, the girl's fragmented remains lay there quietly, without a sound. She had not received the peaceful end that should have been hers, but had instead fallen here so tragically. This was a scene that no one could accept, let alone Luo Fan, who was already on the verge of collapse.
"Ha ha......"
He quickened his pace to approach, but tripped and fell. In front of the shards, he reached out and touched the girl's forehead. Her eyes, devoid of luster, were so lifeless, like a puppet without its strings.
“No…don’t…”
Blood and tears erupted along with his collapsing emotions. Resentment and hatred reached their climax in extreme self-blame and anger. He clumsily picked up the fragments, but they kept falling to the ground due to his trembling. Only the relatively intact head could be held in his arms.
And that intact ring finger...
There is no greater sorrow than a broken heart. He had never cried so bitterly before. His parched lips bled from biting them. The pain in his heart far exceeded that in his body.
"Aaaaaaaahh ...
A desperate roar, in that instant, rivaled that of the Night Hunter whom all of Kansas shunned; filled with grief and resentment, he raised his fist and slammed it heavily onto the ground, making a deafening thud...
Hilde slowly walked up from behind, watching the spot where he had struck. There was a considerable dent and crack. The effects of the reverse Kabbalah factor on his body were quite obvious, allowing him to inflict a very noticeable wound on the ground.
But this is definitely not the effect he wanted...
Hilde didn't complain at all during the long venting session. She just stood behind him and waited silently for him until nearly twenty minutes later. Then he slowly stood up from the ground, holding the girl's head and the slightly cracked metal core in his hands.
He still wanted to save her, which seemed possible...
Hilde offered no comment, handing the tablet from the ground to him. Lofan glanced at it and took it.
When he looked up again, his face, stained with blood and wounds, was once again in that terrifying state. Hilde now realized that what he wanted—that White Eagle should not give them a chance to return alive—was absolutely true. If he could return alive, White Eagle would regret all the plans they had made.
He hasn't completely failed yet. He still has many trump cards up his sleeve in New York. As long as he and they are alive, there is still a chance for him to make a comeback. The peaceful time that White Eagle can enjoy in the end is just starting to count down from now on.
Now, what he needs to do is bring them back.
But... I need help. I can't bring them all home on my own right now; I still need assistance...
Thinking this, Lofan looked up. Hilde had already walked to a distance, where she was gently patting a dilapidated wardrobe, as if hinting at something.
Luo Fan immediately understood, but didn't doubt why she knew the leader's abilities. He had no time to dwell on these minor details; what he needed now was to bring them home... to rethink his plans, change course, and rebuild his strength...
After storing Adeline's remains in his mind, Lovan picked up the tablet and slowly walked to the wardrobe. He sat down on a nearby stone where the burning corpse could still barely maintain its body temperature.
Holding the tablet, he said coldly, "Chief, you know what I need right now, don't you?"
“Hmm…I know,” the leader replied in a similarly cold tone, “Wait a moment, and I will ‘try’ to get them here directly.”
Although Lovan didn't notice, Hilde was staring at the tablet with a disdainful look...
Once construction began, Luo Fan placed the slab aside, then leaned against the rubble, staring blankly at his surroundings. Soon after, he lowered his eyes, lost in thought, regret, and resentment. Anger hadn't yet completely consumed his reason; at least for now, he had never been so clear about what he wanted to do...
Since the White Eagles don't like to resolve problems in a gentle way, there's no need for us to maintain that last line of defense that we use to deceive ourselves.
His brief moment of reflection lasted only a moment before his mind gradually emptied. Drowsiness began to creep in after the emotional release, and he slowly closed his eyes, taking in his final moments of weakness, visible only to the girls.
......
After an unknown amount of time, the familiar language and voice seemed to echo in his ears. Luo Fan was immediately surprised, as he hadn't heard that familiar language in a long time.
When I opened my eyes, I saw a girl in a white combat uniform with a cold expression and white rabbit ears on her head.
However, the surprise and concern in her eyes outweighed Luo Fan's impression of her.
"commander...?"
PS: Well, after the next two chapters, it's currently decided that this will be the last batch of humanoid characters to arrive, along with two more ship girls. However, the ship girls won't be the last batch; there will be new ship girls arriving later, and even Sirens. Don't worry, the Sirens won't be overpowered in the future world.
I also noticed the reader's mention of moving to other countries. We'll be experiencing the Metro Exodus story together in the future, alongside Artyom and his crew. Stay tuned!
719 Eastern Huang Dolls
Luo Fan had only heard this language frequently in the past ten years or so, and now he only used it again when talking to Ying Que. But he never expected to hear it again here in this way. Should he feel warm or regretful?
Her attire left a deep impression on Luo Fan's memory. The beacon, which seemed slightly out of place with her professional expression, looked like a pair of rabbit ears. The subtle contrast was quite adorable.
In the past, Luo Fan would definitely have tried to touch her, causing her some harmless little trouble. But now, he couldn't even get up and could only sit on the ground, staring blankly at her...
"191...?"
Even in her disheveled state, 191 still recognized the man immediately. But this reunion was neither touching nor particularly fitting. Perhaps 191 had imagined this scene in a more romantic and fulfilling way...
Upon hearing the other party's call, 191 was taken aback at first, then slung his gun over his back and ran to the other party's side, his eyes full of concern.
"What happened, Commander? How did this happen? Were we attacked?"
Speaking of the attack, 191 quickly turned her gaze around and noticed the hellish scene before her. Without a doubt, it was no different from the battlefield she remembered, and it might even be in the central area.
"This is... No, Commander, it's not safe here. I'll get you out of here right away!"
After saying that, she intended to carry Luo Fan on her back, but Luo Fan did not take her hand and slowly shook her head...
"No..."
"Why? You've already become like this. Trust my abilities, Commander. Once we're in a safe zone, explain what happened to me!"
“The war is over, 191,” Luo Fan shook his head again, then raised his gaze to the wardrobe in front of him once more: “Wait a moment, just a little longer…”
Following Luo Fan's gaze, the wardrobe indeed opened again, revealing two human figures that were all too familiar to him. 191 then remembered that he seemed to have crawled out of that wardrobe...
The two colleagues, who belonged to the same faction as him, or rather, his seniors, were only the shorter one and didn't seem very reliable...
"95, 97?!"
The 191st generation, Lovan, showed surprise and joy, and the two humanoids who were called naturally showed the same stunned expression as the 191st generation.
"191? What are you doing here? Right... why are my sister and I here? Where is this place again?"
97 was clearly unfazed by the horrific scene and the unexpected turn of events, looking around as he did so. But just a few seconds later, he felt someone grabbing the back of his collar.
"Eh eh eh?"
"Sir, what happened to you? 191, can you explain why you are so badly injured, and why we are here?"
95 pulled her younger sister to Luo Fan's side. Her concern turned into annoyance, a rare expression on 95's elegant face. Even 97 and 191 rarely saw her with such an expression.
But 191 could only tell the truth: "I don't know either. It just suddenly happened from here. As for the commander... I don't know what happened either. I wanted to take him away, but he just wouldn't..."
"Hey, sir?!" 97, a little slow to react, finally noticed the main point: "What happened?! You've vomited a lot of blood... Are you alright?!"
On the nearby gravel, Hilde quietly watched her new friends showing concern for Lovan, and couldn't help but feel a little emotional. Was the tablet in her hand also watching this scene? Was this the result she hoped to see?
At least for now, she approves of these androids more than the leader...
"We...we've been attacked...cough cough!"
After a long while, Luo Fan managed to explain with difficulty. The excruciating pain in his abdomen and the blood in his throat were still the biggest obstacles to his recovery, but his girls should understand the current situation.
"What? Attacked? Where are the others?" 191 asked in surprise. "Didn't you have anyone else with you?! Seriously, as a commander, how can you not have human guards? I must report this to Griffin as soon as I get back...!"
No one is protecting them...?
How could there not be...?
As if remembering something, Luo Fan quickly wiped his eyes, but the dust felt even more unbearable than the original strange sensation.
