"Actually, dying from suffocation isn't very painful..." The staff member next to him smiled awkwardly, trying to explain.

“I’m a detective, and this is a prosecutor. Do you think we’ve never seen a body that died of suffocation?” Matsuda interrupted him directly.

"Sorry..." the staff member quickly shut up.

"System, how do you collect the souls of living things?" Matsuda asked in his mind.

"500 merit points can be exchanged for a one-time Soul Summoning Flag. Using the Soul Summoning Flag, the soul of a person or animal can be summoned from the body."

"The use of the Soul-Summoning Flag can easily breed sin if it is not used properly. Please use it with caution, host."

"Don't worry, this is the only time I'll use it on John," Matsuda assured him.

Then, following the system's instructions, he used 500 merit points to exchange for the Soul-Summoning Flag.

It was a small black flag, no bigger than the palm of your hand, with the two traditional Chinese characters for "soul-stealing" written on one side, and the other side blank.

"Just write John's name on the blank side," the system prompted.

After borrowing a pen from a staff member, Matsuda wrote "John" on the blank side of the small black flag.

"what is this?"

Kujo frowned slightly as he looked at the small flag in Matsuda's hand.

The two alluring Chinese characters on the small flag made her feel that it wasn't a good thing.

“In my hometown, if someone or an animal in a family is about to die, they will put this up,” Matsuda said casually.

"Your hometown has so many strange customs. I heard that people in your hometown like to drink lemon tea?" Kujo asked.

Last time, Matsuda drank spiked lemon tea at Inspector Matsumoto's daughter's wedding and ended up in the hospital.

This matter is already common knowledge within the Metropolitan Police Department.

Matsuda nodded, without answering.

He held up a small flag with his name on it and waved it in front of John.

The dog's eyes were immediately drawn to the little flag.

It took a few steps forward in the cage, then suddenly collapsed to the ground.

This is how ordinary people see it, but in Matsuda's view...

As he waved the little black flag, a hazy, canine-shaped spirit seemed to be dragged along by something, gradually drifting out of John's body.

The moment the dog's spirit completely left his body and floated into the little black flag was the moment John fell to the ground.

"John!" Kujo cried out anxiously when he saw it suddenly collapse to the ground.

The staff quickly stepped forward, pried open the dog's eyes, and stroked its neck for a while. Then they shook their heads.

"There's no heartbeat anymore. It must be that the week-long fast caused some sudden illness," the staff member explained.

"...Justice died suddenly back then too."

Kujo lowered his head, looking sadly at John, who was already lifeless in the cage.

"Didn't you say before that this is a good thing for it, at least it doesn't have to go into the dream box anymore?"

As Matsuda spoke, he put the small black flag into his pocket.

The system had already informed him that John's canine spirit was inside the little black flag.

Seeing Kujo's sorrowful expression, Matsuda first placed his hand on her shoulder.

Seeing that Kujo did not refuse, he gently pulled her into his arms.

Kujo pressed her face against Matsuda's chest and sobbed softly.

Fortunately, Kujo is no ordinary woman.

As a prosecutor, she was already used to seeing life and death.

The reason I feel so sad about John's death is simply because it evokes memories of her family's Justice and the father who raised Justice.

"……Feel sorry,"

Once calmed down, Kujo looked at the wet patches on Matsuda's chest and said apologetically.

"It's alright. If the male prosecutors in the prosecutor's office knew that I could be touched by the Madonna of the prosecutor's world, they would probably be green with envy," Matsuda laughed.

"Stop saying that," Kujo glanced at Matsuda. "Anyway, I'm just an old woman in my thirties who no one wants."

No way, you still remember that little thing that happened in the car!

Matsuda now understands just how sensitive women are about age.

He dared not dwell on the issue any longer and quickly looked at the staff to change the subject: "Excuse me, John is dead. May I take his body with me?"

"Well... I'll have to ask about it, but since it's Officer Matsuda, I think the higher-ups will agree."

After giving a reply, the staff member went out to consult with their superior.

Kujo looked at Matsuda curiously: "You want to bury John yourself?"

“It wasn’t me, it was two of my friends. They asked me beforehand not to let John die too painfully,” Matsuda explained. “John’s master has already gone in, and these two are old friends of John’s. It’s better to let them handle the body than to have it burned at the shelter.”

The shelter staff were quickly approved.

He returned with a veterinarian, who personally examined John and, after confirming his death, even issued a death certificate.

John was, after all, a dog that had killed someone, and the death certificate had to be taken back to the Metropolitan Police Department for record-keeping.

After all these things were done, the animal shelter helped Matsuda carry John's body to Kujo's car.

"You don't mind, do you?"

Matsuda looked at the dog's corpse with some embarrassment, wishing he had rented a car beforehand.

“It’s okay, just put it in,” Kujo shook his head.

After putting the dog's body in the trunk, Matsuda contacted Conan and Ran from Kujo's car.

……

When Kujo's car pulled up in front of the Mori office, the Mori family was standing downstairs.

Besides them, Ayumi, Genta, and Mitsuhiko also came.

"Officer Matsuda, is John really dead?"

When Ayumi saw Matsuda get out of the car, she immediately rushed over, her eyes red as she sobbed and asked.

Matsuda nodded silently and opened the trunk of the car.

Ran, Conan, and several other children looked at John's body with tears in their eyes.

“Officer Matsuda…” Conan looked up at Matsuda.

"Don't worry, he didn't die in pain," Matsuda said, stating the conclusion of the shelter staff that John died from other illnesses caused by starvation.

Conan and Ran felt even more distressed after hearing that John was on a hunger strike.

"Officer Matsuda, leave the rest to me,"

Kogoro Mouri carried John's body out of the trunk of the car.

“Mr. Sakaguchi told me before that if John died, he should be buried in the Sakaguchi family's yard, and I think John would agree.”

Chapter 66, Article Nine: Hurry up, take off your clothes.

After Mori finished speaking with a stern face, his gaze suddenly fell on Reiko Kujo, who had just gotten off the car, and his eyes widened instantly.

"Oh, beautiful lady, I am the famous detective Kogoro Mouri..."

Mori shoved John's body into Ran's arms and then scurried off to Inspector Kujo to try and ingratiate himself with her.

"Dad!" Xiaolan's face instantly turned black with anger.

"Don't worry, he'll give up soon," Matsuda said.

"Why?" Conan's eyes widened.

"You'll find out soon enough," Matsuda said with a smile.

Just as Matsuda had guessed, Mori had barely exchanged two words with Kujo before slinking back home.

“I never imagined she was that prosecutor Kujo,” Mori complained.

"Prosecutor Kujo?" Ran exclaimed in surprise. "Is she the prosecutor Mom was talking about, the one who's so famous in the prosecutor's office?"

"Yeah, I just said two words to her and she brought up your mother..." Mori snorted, his face sour.

……

The Maori and his men went to bury John.

Matsuda got into Kujo's car, thinking she would drive back to the Metropolitan Police Department, but to her surprise, Kujo's car stopped in front of a high-rise apartment building.

"here it is?"

After getting off the bus, Matsuda looked at the apartment in front of him with a puzzled expression.

"this is my house."

Nine people stepped forward, entered the password, and opened the door to the high-rise apartment.

"Then me?" Matsuda pointed to himself.

"Hurry up and come over here," Kujo urged from the building entrance.

Matsuda followed her for no apparent reason until they entered Kujo's apartment.

"Take off your clothes,"

After entering the house and changing his shoes, Kujo urged him on.

Taking off clothes? Could it be...?

But, is there any need to be in such a hurry?

Matsuda paused for a moment, then hurriedly took off his suit jacket.

Just as he was about to take off his shirt, Kujo frowned and said, "Your shirt is wet too?"
