Chapter 20 Ms. Grey
Chapter 20 Ms. Grey
"The good news is that we did find a place to hide things," Ryan said.
"And the bad news?" Flitwick asked.
"Professor, isn't this obvious?" Ryan pointed to the small mountains of clutter: "This room is quite large, it feels like two or three large auditoriums on the first floor."
Even so, these things are almost filling this place up, and it's hard to imagine how we're supposed to find something we don't even know what it is.
"I think Ryan has a point; it's difficult for us to find our targets in advance." Dumbledore turned and winked at Ryan. "Perhaps we could organize small-scale treasure hunts in the future?"
Professor Flitwick shook his head, believing the idea to be too dangerous.
Ryan understood Dumbledore's meaning.
However, having dealt with ancient ruins for a long time, he knew that magical items had a limited shelf life. He was just about to say that after so many years, these old things might have long lost their magic.
They then discovered that even though the flying broom in front of them was an old model that would be considered an old man's broom in a museum, it still had magical fluctuations!
He drew his wand and cast a detection spell.
Although the detection spell was greatly suppressed inside the Room of Requirement, magical fluctuations could still be seen in all the items within the detection range!
"Is it because of the Room of Requirement?" He was surprised. It was definitely not because the little wizard who hid things had superb magical skills. Otherwise, Hogwarts would have been producing a constant stream of people who could be called magic masters throughout the history of magic.
Then there was only one magic academy left in the world. The other ten magic academies had no students willing to enroll and had to regretfully announce their closure.
"Perhaps it's because of Hogwarts," Dumbledore said thoughtfully. "Felius, what do you think?"
"I also think it's because of Hogwarts. Lane told me that this looks like a room left behind by Lady Ravenclaw. I agree with him." Professor Flitwick looked through and examined the clutter on the floor.
"The room left behind by Lady Ravenclaw?" Dumbledore pondered, then said, "It seems I need to give you a small task, Lane. You need to go and ask Lady Grey in your personal capacity what she thinks of the Room of Requirement."
Ms. Gray?
The Ravenclaw Ghost?
That somewhat arrogant, yet well-mannered and kind-hearted lady?
Ryan couldn't quite understand Dumbledore's meaning. As the headmaster, it would have been a simple matter for him to get information out of a house ghost.
However, he told Ryan to ask the question himself, in his personal capacity.
Could it be because Lady Grey doesn't talk to reckless lions...? He speculated jokingly, though he knew of course that was impossible; Dumbledore was undoubtedly one of the most gifted wizards Hogwarts had ever had in centuries.
"Yes, I will speak with Ms. Grey as soon as possible." Trusting Dumbledore's shrewdness, he accepted the task.
"Speaking of which, Ryan, you have a lot going on this year: the Professors Club of Philius and Minerva, your own Adventurers' Club, and the OWLs exams at the end of the year," Dumbledore said.
"However, since the views you expressed in the principal's office last time, I've been reading ancient books from the East these past two days. There's a saying in them that says, if a person wants to achieve great things and shoulder heavy responsibilities, he must constantly be tempered and tested."
"I suppose this kind of extra task doesn't need any reward, so I'll add ten points to Ravenclaw's score."
Professor Flitwick, standing to the side, was dumbfounded; this was the first time in all these years that he had seen Dumbledore like this.
Ryan's lips twitched: "Heaven is about to bestow a great responsibility upon this person..."
Principal, this is PUA!
How did such outdated culture from decades later end up at Hogwarts?
He vaguely heard two sentences echoing in the void. The first sentence was, "As long as you endure hardship, you will succeed."
Another saying is, "As long as you can endure hardship, there will be endless hardship."
The three left the Room of Requirement. Dumbledore and Flitwick each left behind surveillance equipment to find out who had infiltrated Hogwarts and what treasure that person wanted to take.
Ryan did not try to leave any corresponding means because his magical skills were not yet at the master level of a professor, and leaving any monitoring means would be easily detected by a skilled wizard.
"It's truly delightful to have a prophet on your side. Gentlemen, it's time to enjoy a brand new day." Dumbledore and Lane bid each other farewell and returned to the headmaster's office.
In the headmaster's office, Dumbledore picked up today's Daily Prophet but didn't read it. Instead, he muttered to himself, "It's strange. I always feel that Lane has something urgent to do. According to him, he went to the library all night again last night, as he has since he enrolled."
"Dumbledore, you are a master of Legilimency," suggested one of the headmasters, Black.
"Phineas, I would never use Legilimency on my own student. I trust my student."
.......
Professor Flitwick said to Ryan at the bottom of the stairs, "Ryan, I have to go teach the young wizards too. To be honest, I'm also very curious about who infiltrated Hogwarts."
"Professor, please wait a moment."
"Is there anything else?"
"I'd like to ask why you're asking Ms. Gray for her opinion on the House of Requirement."
Professor Flitwick said, "Oh, Lane, a lady's news should be given to you voluntarily, and no gentleman would reveal a lady's news without her permission."
I'm just gathering information!
With a mouthful of words stuck in his throat, Ryan put on an awkward yet polite smile and watched Professor Flitwick leave, looking radiant.
As he walked to the entrance of the Ravenclaw common room, he saw two people talking.
"Cedric, Cho Chang, aren't you going to class this morning?"
Cedric turned around, somewhat awkwardly: "Lane, the parchment you left on the bulletin board was copied for everyone using a copying charm. I don't know if that's cheating... I've been coming to the Ravenclaw common room to look for you these past few days..."
"Three days ago, Cho Chang... kept saying you weren't in the Ravenclaw common room. I only met you today."
No wonder he looked so uncomfortable. Hufflepuff was perfectly well-behaved in everything except sneaking into the kitchen... Ryan knew that Cedric was worried that his actions might cause Ryan inconvenience.
"Don't worry, Cedric. No great achievement is accomplished by one person alone. It's not a bad thing to have more people participate in this assessment," Ryan said.
"Also, I'm very grateful that you passed my test during the assessment." Cedric shook his armband.
Ryan felt that he was saying this on purpose, but no matter how Ryan thought about it, he couldn't figure out what the point was of Cedric deliberately pointing out that he had passed the Adventurers' Club's assessment.
He could only conclude that Cedric felt unworthy of the armband because he had helped others cheat by using the Copying Charm.
"You shouldn't be thanking me, Mr. Cedric Diggory," Lane said seriously. "You should be thanking yourself for all the learning and accumulation you've made over the years, and for the extraordinary wisdom and creativity in your mind."
He looked at Cho Chang across from Cedric and said, "Of course, the club recruits every year. Cho Chang, I read your answer this time, it just had a few flaws. I believe I'll see you at the club next year."
"Senior Ryan, is this a prophecy?" Qiu Zhang smiled. She was always polite and well-liked.
"That's a blessing," Lane said. "Have you seen Ms. Grey?"
"Thank you for your blessings, senior." Qiu Zhang pointed in a direction: "I saw Ms. Gray heading towards the library."
Ryan thanked him and headed towards the library.
"Doesn't Ryan need to attend classes?" Cedric asked, puzzled.
"The first class is Divination. He's never taken a Divination class before, and we don't think Professor Sybil can teach him anything. I have to go to class now. Goodbye, Cedric." Cho Chang waved and left.
"Goodbye." Cedric said, raising his eyebrows slightly and curving his lips into a smile.
